Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is often debated whether co-educational system plays a siginficant role in contemporary society or separate schooling is an effective strategy. In my opinion, while there are valid arguments on both sides, I firmly believe that students should study in mixed institutes. This essay will discuss both perspectives and explain why mixed-gender schooling is the primary factor.
On the one hand, a major argument in favor of seperate schooling for both genders is that it makes no difference at early stages of education. To clarify, when individuals or societies focus on this aspect, they tend to experience good personal growth in their children becuase children of primaly levels are just taught to learn basics of every discipline and be friendly with others irrespective of the gender discrimination fact. For instance, recent surveys of different regional schools show that there is no effect on childrens' performance whether they study in single or mixed-sex schools.
On the other hand, I would argue that

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
This response responds to the task only minimally and fails to reach the required word count, containing only 161 words against the minimum of 250. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, breaking off abruptly mid-sentence in the second body paragraph ('On the other hand, I would argue that'). While the introduction attempts to present a position and briefly outlines both sides, the main body ideas are severely limited and under-developed due to the truncated nature of the writing. To reach higher bands, the candidate must complete the essay, fully develop their position with extended explanations and relevant examples, and ensure the word count requirement is strictly met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text displays some basic organization with a clear introductory paragraph and standard transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand'. However, there is no clear overall progression because the essay cuts off prematurely. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and repetitive phrasing appears across the response. Paragraphing is initiated properly, but the lack of a complete second body paragraph and a concluding section prevents any logical flow to a natural end. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer needs to structure a complete argument with clear progression between paragraphs and varied, accurate cohesive links.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some topic-related terms like 'co-educational system', 'contemporary society', and 'gender discrimination'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the quality, such as 'siginficant' instead of significant, 'seperate' instead of separate, 'becuase' instead of because, and 'primaly' instead of primary levels. These spelling and lexical slips occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range with more precise academic vocabulary and eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses in the introduction. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with subject-verb agreement and pluralisation, such as 'childrens' performance' instead of children's performance. The attempts at complex sentences often contain faulty patterns, and the incomplete ending leaves grammatical structures unresolved. To move higher, the student needs to demonstrate a better control over complex grammatical forms, improve punctuation, and ensure greater accuracy in basic agreement and possessive constructions.
