Student answer (Band 5.5)

Education is a basic right for all and school plays a vital role to make the foundation of being educated. In terms of studing in school some people argue that studing in boys schools or girls schools may benefit the students more than studing in combine schools. I partially support this statement. I will mention the reason after sharing the advantages and disadvantages of studing in separate schools in this essay.

In unisex school, there is a chance of anti social activism or gender based violence such as sexual harassment. Consequently, gurdians worry about the safety of their childs. Additionally, in front of boys classmate, most of the the female students are not comportable enough to learn or to ask suitable questions to their teacher mostly when it is related to reproduciton. Additionally, some mixed students schools also face the case of bullying toward other gender.

However, there are some advantages too. Students can learn how to respect other gender from their school life. It also act as a place of learning , sharing opinion and competition. The mixed learners environment give the opportunity to break the hesitation to talk with other gender people.

Regarding that, I think in school level, separate schools based of gender are better than mix schools considering the possibility of bullying tendancy or harassment issue. If teacher can ensure a safe environment both for male and female students, it will be a best institute for learning and growing skills as well.

In conclusion, due to several anti social activities, coeducational schools are not on the top of the list to the female students.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of single-sex education and providing a partial opinion on the issue. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, which is characteristic of this level. For instance, the discussion regarding safety, anti-social behaviour, and bullying lacks specific supporting examples or deep exploration. The writer takes a position, stating a partial agreement initially, but the conclusion shifts slightly to focus primarily on the drawbacks of coeducational schools for female students rather than maintaining a fully balanced overview matching the initial thesis. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to extend and fully support all presented ideas with relevant examples and maintain a clear, consistent line of argument throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic logical organisation, with the essay divided into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing advantages and disadvantages, a personal view, and a brief conclusion. However, overall progression is limited, and the connections between paragraphs feel somewhat disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often repetitive or mechanical, such as the repeated use of 'Additionally' to start consecutive sentences in the second paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but some paragraphs are very brief and underdeveloped. Referencing and transitional phrases need to be managed more flexibly and accurately to ensure smoother transitions between contrasting ideas and to achieve a clearer overall progression of thought throughout the entire response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, but the range is limited. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'anti-social activism', 'reproduction', and 'coeducational', but these attempts are often accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'studing' instead of studying, 'combine schools' instead of combined or co-educational schools, 'gurdians', 'childs', and 'comportable'. These lexical errors and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and impede the precision of the argument. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their vocabulary range, ensuring accurate spelling, and using words and collocations in appropriate contexts rather than relying on basic or awkwardly phrased terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic compound forms. Attempts at more complex sentence structures are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in grammar, plurals, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns. Examples of errors include 'school plays a vital role to make the foundation', 'in front of boys classmate', 'most of the the female students', and 'If teacher can ensure'. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally decode the meaning, though communication is generally maintained. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy, ensuring better control over verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles.
