Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is a considerable debate about whether schools should be single-sex or co-educational. Some people argue that co-education with opposite genders provides greater learning opportunities like uniform curriculum and environment but I firmly believe that both boys and girls can benefit more in single sex schools because of higher educational concentration and teacher tailoring according to sex.
The primary reason to support my point is that learning in single sex experience the higher focused learning than co-educational schools. Students do not get distracted in single-sex schools due to romantic feelings and crossing boundaries at such early age. Moreover, less shyness is noticed in presenting their perspectives and themselves. Students can feel more motivated to learn new skills with single-sex in order to compete with their same sex boys or girls. Therefore, this can result in creating better learning opportunities for both sexes without discrimination.
Another significant point is teachor tailoring according to each sex. By this I mean that teacher can make or modify the curriculum according to each sex needs for improving their overall academic learning. For instance, one gender may prefer soft skills over hard skills while other do opposite. To further illustrate this point boys become interested in more physical activities while girls may prefer the way that require less physical efforts.
In conclusion, while some people contend that co-education is more usefel but there are many disadvantages of it. These include romantic feelings, shyness and rude behavior that how to approach opposite sex and respect the boundaries. Therefore, the drawbacks of co-education clearly outweigh the benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, fully meeting the requirements for a solid performance while showing elements of higher achievement. The introduction and conclusion establish your stance that single-sex schools are more beneficial. The main body paragraphs contain relevant ideas, such as reduced distractions and tailored teaching methods. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the point regarding 'teacher tailoring' and the mention that 'one gender may prefer soft skills' lacks detailed supporting evidence or specific context, which prevents the response from reaching a higher level. Nevertheless, the main arguments are clear and directly address the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to conclusion, demonstrating the features of a well-structured text. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, such as focused learning in the second paragraph and teacher adaptation in the third. Cohesive devices are used adequately to connect ideas, as seen with transition markers like 'The primary reason', 'Moreover', and 'Another significant point'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'each sex' and 'both sexes'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but smoothing out the transitions between sentences would elevate the flow further.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, allowing you to communicate your perspective clearly. You attempt some less common lexical items, such as 'considerable debate', 'co-educational', and 'academic learning'. However, there are notable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies that show the boundaries of this level, such as 'teachor' (spelling error), 'learning in single sex experience the higher focused learning' (awkward phrasing and collocation), and 'more usefel' (spelling). Despite these occasional slips and spelling errors, the meaning is generally clear and communication is not impeded. To push into higher ranges, more precise word choices and natural collocations are required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating structures like relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as missing articles ('at such early age'), preposition errors ('with single-sex' instead of 'in single-sex environments'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('teacher can make' where 'teachers can make' is needed). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the reader can easily follow your points. To achieve a higher level of grammatical accuracy, you need a greater proportion of error-free sentences and stricter control over plurals, articles, and singular/plural noun agreements.
