Student answer (Band 5.5)
Co-education is becoming a common education style in many parts of the world than single sex schools. While some individuals believe that single sex school are beneficial than mixed schools, I strongly disagree as students in a co- education system tend to develop confidence.Additionally boys and girl supports each other in their weak areas thereby improving perfomance.
If girls and boys are mixed during their high school, there is a boost in their level of confidence and self-esteem.Girls and boys became familiar and confident being around each other therefore, they do not feel scared when the meet later either at University or at workplace. For instance, girls who were sharing classes with boys will not be scared to share an office or podium with men when they grow up. In some countries it was observed that girls who were at a mixed school had high chances of getting leardership positions since they were n
Girls and boys have different capabilities. When they are in the same class they can easily mentor one another in their weak area therefore, improving perfomance. For example, it is believed that boys are good at mathematics while girls are good at art subjects. In mixed schools boys will mentor girls in mathematics and girls will mentor boys in arts.It has also been shown that in mixed boarding schools perfomance is high.
In my opinion, mixed schools are better than single sex schools as students tend to help each other to boost their perfomance and it also buld their confidence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position against single-sex schools and in favour of co-education, supporting this view with relevant ideas such as confidence-building and mutual support in academic areas. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the point about boys and girls mentoring each other is introduced with general assertions rather than fully elaborated examples, and the sudden truncation in the second paragraph ('since they were n') leaves an idea incomplete. To reach a higher level, all main points require thorough extension with fully realized explanations and consistent development throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding stance. However, the logical progression is occasionally hindered by mechanical or faulty cohesion and referencing issues. For instance, transitional phrases and cohesive devices are sometimes basic or repetitive, and referencing pronouns do not always clearly point back to their antecedents. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal paragraph flow lacks seamless transitions between sentences. To improve, the writer needs to utilize a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that ideas are sequenced to create a smoother, more logical progression from one point to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items relevant to education, such as 'co-education', 'self-esteem', and 'leadership positions'. However, there are notable spelling errors like 'perfomance' and 'buld', alongside awkward word choices and spacing issues such as 'co- education' and 'leardership'. These errors do not heavily impede overall communication, but they restrict the score because they reveal a lack of precision. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range, demonstrate better control over word formation and collocations, and eliminate recurrent spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses ('If girls and boys are mixed...', 'girls who were sharing classes...'). Nevertheless, there are some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing spaces after commas, subject-verb agreement issues ('boys and girl supports', 'girls became familiar'), and article omissions. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they persist throughout the text. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to increase grammatical accuracy, ensure meticulous punctuation, and produce a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences.
