Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position against single-sex schools and discussing relevant aspects such as social interaction and gender understanding. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the writer attempts to explain how co-educational environments foster respect and reduce misconceptions, some arguments remain unclear or under-developed, such as the mention of biological understanding and classroom competition. To move higher, the student needs to fully extend and support all main ideas with clearer reasoning and more concrete, logical examples rather than relying on generalised statements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, progression is somewhat disrupted by faulty referencing and mechanical use of cohesive devices, such as repetitive transitions like 'Many people' and 'Moreover'. Paragraphing is present, but the logical flow between sentences occasionally falters, making the relationships between ideas less clear than required for a higher level. Enhancing the variety and precision of cohesive links and ensuring clearer referencing of pronouns would significantly improve the structural flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for communicating basic ideas, but it is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as writing 'curical' instead of crucial, 'childs' instead of children, and 'instituation' instead of institution. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts often result in unnatural phrasing, such as 'promot various narration' or 'criticisum durnig their periods time'. Spelling mistakes also occur throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range and demonstrate much greater control over word forms, spelling, and standard collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent reliance on basic patterns. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, these are often faulty, featuring errors in subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and article usage, such as 'children are get education' or 'it create thinging difference'. Errors in grammar and punctuation are noticeable throughout the response and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in grasping the exact meaning. To progress, the student needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better command over complex grammatical structures and clauses.
