Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries boys and girls are studying together in co-educational, while some people believe that it is more beneficial that boys and girls study in single sex schools. Altough studying in a single sex schools help students to concentrate more on studies, i believe that co-education school system has more benefits, they will prepare students to develop social and communication skills, and prepare them for real life experiences.

One advantage of single sex education is that students concentrate more on their studies. In many areas students get distracted by relationship and social interactions with opposite gender. As a result single sex school system help them to focus more closely on their academic work. In addition teachers will be able to prepare lesson according to the particular needs of students. For instance, a school for girls could encourage more students to study subjects like science and technology, where participation of women has already been lower.

However, I believe that advantages of co-educational schools are more significant.Firstly studying with opposite sex prepare students for their future lives. After leaving school, people generally need to communicate and work with both man and womem at universities and in the workplace. Therefore, students who have a experience of mixed educational environment may find it easier to cooperate with other and communicate confidently.

Furthermore, co-educational schools help students to develop better social skills and reduce gender stereotype. When both girls and boys work together regularly and parti ipate in activities they learn to respect other opinions and abilities. For instance, a group assignment requires both genders to share responsibilities, solve problems and achieve a common goal. These skills are not only beneficial in education but also in practical life.

To conclude, altough single sex education help students to focus more on studies and provide a special learning enviornment, I believe that co-education system are a better choice. They prepare students to develop social and communication skills. and prepare them for mixex environment tgat they will encounter in adulthood.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both sides of the issue—the perceived benefits of single-sex schooling and the advantages of co-education—while clearly stating your own position. You present relevant ideas, such as how single-sex schools reduce distractions and allow tailored teaching, and how mixed schools foster communication and realistic workplace preparation. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the point about teachers preparing lessons for specific needs in single-sex environments is introduced but not fully extended with detailed examples. To reach a higher level, all main arguments need deeper elaboration and more comprehensive support throughout the discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a discernible focus, starting with single-sex education and moving to the advantages of co-education. You use various cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as 'One advantage', 'However', and 'Furthermore'. Nevertheless, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or basic, and paragraphing or transitional links could be handled with greater fluency to ensure smoother transitions between contrasting viewpoints. Moving towards the next band requires more sophisticated and flexible cohesive devices that integrate ideas seamlessly without drawing attention to themselves.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message about education systems. You make attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'co-educational', 'gender stereotype', and 'cooperate'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as writing 'Altough' instead of 'Although', 'single sex' instead of hyphenated 'single-sex', 'man and womem' instead of 'men and women', 'mixex environment', and 'tgat'. These lexical and spelling errors do not impede communication, but they restrict your score because precision and control over less common lexical items are not yet fully consistent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional and relative clauses, such as 'students who have a experience of mixed educational environment may find it easier'. There are several grammar and punctuation errors present, including missing articles ('a experience', 'participation of women has already been lower'), pluralisation issues ('lesson according to the particular needs of students'), and subject-verb agreement or preposition slips ('co-education system are a better choice'). While these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear, they prevent the grammar score from rising higher. Achieving a higher band requires a greater proportion of error-free complex sentences and more consistent control over grammar.
