Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the current society, the community is polarised into two groups almost equally regarding the issue that girls and boys are studied in co-education in different parts of the globe. A school of thought favors the statement. However, others think that it is more beneficial to study separately in single-sex schools which is completely opposite to the first statement. This essay will shed light on both aspects. As far as I am concerned, I partly agree with the given statements.

Elaborating on the mindset of those individuals who are in the favor of the first stated idea. First and foremost, the most significant contribution of getting education with opposite gender is in the field of living etiquttes in society. Respect towards opposite gender has led to the developments of cooperation and progressive nature after marriage without any hesitation within couples which facilitate to strenghtens the people to people ties. A survey conducted in the United States had its findings published in a renowned journal that 70% of people who studied in mixed schools contributing very well in the welfare and progress of society without any disturbances after marriage. Thus, this aspect of argument is entirely valid.

Shifting forward to the latter school of thought that studying with single-sex has greatly improved the living standards through the use of technical innovations. Achieving goals in life without distractions have made people's lives more convenient and productive and it can even play a vital role because it expands student's understanding which can lead to unexpected breakthoughs in the future. For example, Dhoni is one the famous cricketer who got his education in single gender school and that's the reason, he was so focussed towards his goals which he achieved with his determination. Hence, it is crucial to maximise the progressive outcome from the society.

Pondering over the topic, although both arguments have their valid reasons, I believe that age should be considered in both statements such as, a student can study in mixed school untill 14 years or upto 10th standard after that everyone should study in single-sex school. It is only then that our society can become a better place to live.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position, although the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The introduction clearly outlines both views and states a partial agreement, which is further refined in the conclusion by introducing an age-based compromise. However, the body paragraphs contain some under-developed and slightly confusing explanations. For instance, the paragraph discussing single-sex schools abruptly brings up a specific example about a cricketer named Dhoni rather than fully exploring broader academic or social implications. While the main ideas are relevant and attempt to answer the prompt, certain supporting arguments lack the necessary depth and clarity, meaning some points feel repetitive or generalized rather than thoroughly extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical organization and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from an introduction to arguments for co-education, then single-sex schooling, and finally a nuanced conclusion. The response successfully bridges the gap between Band 6 and Band 7 by demonstrating generally clear referencing and functional paragraphing. However, cohesion sometimes feels mechanical or a bit awkward due to transition phrases like 'Shifting forward to the latter school of thought' or 'Pondering over the topic'. While cohesive devices are present and guide the reader through the text, occasional awkward transitions and referencing issues prevent the essay from achieving a fully natural flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and allows the writer to convey their ideas sufficiently. The student attempts to use less common and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'polarised', 'co-education', 'innovations', and 'breakthoughs', showing some ambition. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text. Examples include writing 'are studied in co-education' instead of 'are educated in co-educational settings', 'living etiquttes' instead of 'social etiquette', and spelling errors such as 'breakthoughs' and 'strenghtens'. These lexical slips and awkward collocations do not heavily impede communication, but they restrict the score because precision and control over less common items are not consistently maintained.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation that appear with some regularity. Issues include errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'girls and boys are studied', prepositional misuse in phrases like 'in the favor of' instead of 'in favor of', and awkward phrasing in complex structures like 'the most significant contribution of getting education with opposite gender is in the field of living etiquttes'. While these errors rarely completely impede understanding and the reader can follow the intended meaning, the frequency and nature of the grammatical lapses reflect a limited control over complex patterns, keeping the accuracy within this band.
