Student answer (Band 4.5)

In many parts of the world girls and boys are educated together in co-educational or mixed schools. Few people assume that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools.I strongly believe that girls and boys are educated together in co-education or mixed schools.

In many parts of the world girls and boys are educated together in co-educational or mixed schools because many students like to study together in class and parents also join their children in co-education schools or colleges. For example studing in co-education school or colleges can improve students behavaior and become good friends and they can help together in studies. So,studing in co-education can change students behavaior and they can talk with girls and boys without fear.

On the other hand, some people think that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools because some parents like to join their children in single-sex schools to study and get good score in their exams. For example in single-sex schools they don't have much compition in exams and sports and they don't know how to talk with girls and boys they stay like a interovate. So, few people think this is good way to join their children single-sex schools for girls and boys.

Conclusion many students like to study together in class and parents also join their children in co-education schools and colleges. However, some parents like to join their children in single-sex schools to study and get good score in their exams and they feel this is a good way to join their children in single-sex schools

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response sits at this band because it addresses the task only minimally and tangentially. The length requirement is not met as the student's response contains only 197 words, falling 53 words short of the 250-word minimum, and 73 words copied directly from the task prompt were not counted. Furthermore, the position taken is repetitive and confusing; for example, the introduction states 'I strongly believe that girls and boys are educated together in co-education or mixed schools,' but the body paragraphs simply list basic ideas without proper development or clear extension. The ideas remain very limited, and the conclusion merely restates earlier points rather than synthesizing them effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response shows some basic organization into paragraphs, but information and ideas are not arranged in a truly coherent progression. While basic cohesive devices such as 'For example' and 'On the other hand' are used, referencing is frequently unclear and mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases often link repetitive sentences rather than advancing a logical argument. Paragraphing is attempted, but the conclusion fails to summarize the argument adequately, merely repeating phrasing from the body paragraphs. Overall, the structural flow is disjointed and lacks clear, logical progression throughout.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and lacks the precision required for academic writing. The writer relies heavily on simple, recurring terms such as 'study,' 'schools,' 'girls and boys,' and 'co-education.' There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors that strain the reader, such as 'behavaior,' 'studing,' 'compition,' and 'interovate' (intended to mean introverted). The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate, showing little awareness of less common lexical items or appropriate academic collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, relying mostly on simple or repetitively structured sentences with frequent errors that impede communication. There are noticeable errors in verb forms, articles, plurals, and punctuation throughout the text, such as missing punctuation between clauses and incorrect preposition usage in phrases like 'join their children in single-sex schools to study.' Complex sentence structures are rare, and attempts at subordination or conjunction often result in run-on sentences or fragments. These frequent errors affect the clarity of meaning.
