Student answer (Band 4.5)

In many parts of the world girls and boys are getting education together in co-education or mixed schools. But some people think that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools. Somehow, i agree and somehow i do not agree with it.

Overall, girls and boys are studying together at schools, colleges, Universities and at other institutes. It is very common in European countries but not in Asian countries. Due to some reasons parents wants their children especially girls in single-sex schools or colleges.

On the other hand, learning in co-education creates a formal environment and gives a real life experience. Going school to school together is better because it help children to learn how to work with everyone in the real world. The only main reason mixed schools are good because they copy real life. Girls and boys have to work together in officesoffices and communities. If boys and girls are separated at school, they might find it hard to talk to or understand each other later in life. By learning in the same classroom, they learn how to respect each other, make friends, and communicate well from a young age.

Although it have many benefits but stll some parents feel unsafe for sending their girls to mixed gender schools. They think that gender specific schools are best for their childen to learn things safely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response sits at a lower band because it only minimally addresses the task prompt. First, it must be noted that the response fails to meet the length requirement, containing only 211 words (with 26 words copied directly from the prompt discounted), falling well short of the 250-word minimum. Furthermore, the writer's position is unclear and underdeveloped. In the introduction, the student writes, 'Somehow, i agree and sometimes i do not agree with it,' which presents a confused stance rather than a clear position. The arguments presented about real-life experience in mixed schools are repetitive and lack sufficient support or relevant examples. To improve, the writer must ensure the essay meets the minimum word count, clearly state and maintain a definite position throughout, and fully develop main ideas with well-explained examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay displays some basic organization, but information and ideas are not arranged in a fully coherent manner. While there are paragraph breaks, the structural progression is weak. The introduction is extremely brief and fragmented, ending abruptly with 'Somehow, i agree and somehow i do not agree with it.' Body paragraphs tend to jump between ideas without clear logical links, and the conclusion is severely truncated, cutting off mid-sentence at 'In conclusiuon, this is fear oinside some'. Cohesive devices are used very simply and repetitively, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Although it have many benefits', making the progression mechanical rather than natural. To move up, the writer needs to ensure every paragraph has a clear topic sentence, improve the overall flow of arguments, use a wider variety of cohesive ties accurately, and write a complete concluding paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic, repetitive words and phrases such as 'girls and boys', 'schools', 'real life', and 'learn'. There are noticeable lexical errors and spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'officesoffices', 'stll', 'conclusiuon', and 'oinside'. While these errors do not completely prevent the reader from understanding the general topic, they demonstrate a lack of precision in word choice and spelling. The writer attempts some slightly less common vocabulary, such as 'co-education', but overall control remains weak. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical range by incorporating less common and more precise vocabulary, paying closer attention to word formation, and eliminating spelling errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Grammar and sentence structures are severely limited. The response consists mostly of basic simple and compound sentences, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, such as 'Due to some reasons parents wants their children especially girls in single-sex schools' (subject-verb agreement error and missing prepositions) and 'Although it have many benefits but stll some parents feel unsafe for sending their girls' (grammatical redundancy and incorrect prepositions). Frequent errors occur in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, for example, 'Going school to school together'. These frequent errors place a strain on the reader. To improve, the writer must work on mastering basic agreement rules, prepositions, and verb tenses while attempting a wider variety of accurate complex sentence structures.
