Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only minimally, and importantly, it fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, coming in significantly under at 191 words. While the writer manages to express a basic position regarding both the advantages and disadvantages of co-educational systems, the ideas remain highly limited, basic, and under-developed. For instance, points regarding confidence-building and social issues are touched upon very briefly without proper extension, explanation, or relevant examples from personal knowledge. To reach higher bands, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is fully met and provide a well-developed discussion with fully supported arguments exploring both sides of the prompt thoroughly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The information and ideas are not arranged coherently, placing the text at the lower end of organizational capability. There is a complete absence of paragraphing, resulting in a single, dense block of text that makes progression difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are either missing or rudimentary, relying heavily on run-on structures and conversational connectors like 'fisrt oo all' and 'at the other bad side'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the overall progression of ideas lacks logical sequencing. To improve, the writer needs to divide the essay into clear, distinct paragraphs with a logical introduction, body, and conclusion, while employing standard cohesive devices to link sentences smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing frequent errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally strain the reader's comprehension. Examples such as 'co edjuction', 'againest', 'geting', and 'sexiuly harsment' demonstrate significant limitations in lexical control and accuracy. The range is minimally adequate for conveying very simple thoughts, but the writer struggles to use less common lexical items appropriately. To achieve a higher score, the student must expand their vocabulary range, learn the correct spelling of common academic terms related to education, and ensure precise word choices without relying on informal or incorrectly formed expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammar demonstrates a very limited range of structures, consisting mainly of simple sentences linked improperly with conjunctions or run together without punctuation. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, as seen in expressions like 'this is the main topic of todays life i watch many tv shows that they are againest' and 'children try it into real life'. Punctuation is largely neglected, with missing capitalisation and periods creating prolonged, confusing clauses. To move forward, the writer must practice constructing accurate simple and complex sentences, monitor basic agreement rules, and apply correct punctuation to separate distinct clauses.
