Student answer (Band 5.5)

Co-education is considered essential for many people, but there is disagreement about whether it should be provided in single sex schools. I largely agree that girls and boys are educated both in co-education.

One major benefit of mixed schools is it can provide equal opportunities for both. And secondly they can build more confidence and learn so much. And the best thing is they can build a strong relationship and communicate in respectful way. As a result, especially the girls are more confident, if they educated in co-education system.

And the other point many people are agreed they have more benefits from being educated separately in single sex schools. Because they believe students have more focused in study, when they are in single sex schools. Because they had no distractions from opposite gender. If they attracted with opposite gender they don't pay attention in studies. And also they believe girls and boys have boundaries especially in their teenage era both have hormonal growth. And they have more curiosity to know each other and they want to talk with each other. That's why they think separately education has more benefits rather than co-education.

In conclusion, I believe that co-education is much better than separately education. Because they have so many benefits which we totally ignored it. Especially in Asian countries they believe girls and boys are educated together is not safe for girls. That's why many people who they belong to Asian countries they considered separately education. As the result, the girls has no confident and they don't know how to communicate with opposite gender. And also they scared around a group of boys. And they don't feel safe in outsides.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a relevant position, stating that you largely favour co-education and reaffirming this in the conclusion. You also acknowledge the opposing view, explaining that some people believe single-sex schools reduce distractions and help students focus. However, the opening sentence is unclear about the question, and the position is not consistently expressed: “I largely agree that girls and boys are educated both in co-education” does not clearly state the extent of your agreement. The benefits of mixed schooling—confidence, equal opportunities and respectful communication—are listed but not explained with specific examples or developed reasoning. The discussion of safety and confidence in Asian countries is relevant, but broad and unsupported. Develop fewer points more fully and clarify your position from the introduction onward.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate discussion of mixed and single-sex schools, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow because ideas are added in a list-like way, particularly through repeated openings such as “And secondly,” “And the other point,” and “Because.” Some links are also unclear: the shift from the benefits of co-education to the opposing view is abrupt, and the conclusion introduces the Asian-country example without preparing it earlier. Pronouns such as “they” have unclear references in places. Use topic sentences, group related points, and connect each reason to its explanation more deliberately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main topic, with relevant terms such as “equal opportunities,” “distractions,” “opposite gender,” and “communicate.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, including “benefits,” “single sex schools,” and “co-education.” Some word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “more focused in study,” “hormonal growth,” and “scared around a group of boys,” which can make the intended meaning less clear. Aim to use more accurate collocations and vary repeated wording—for example, describe students as “more focused on their studies” and refer to “physical and emotional changes during adolescence.” This would make the argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences using clauses and reasons, but the response relies heavily on short, repetitive structures, and complex attempts are often inaccurate. Examples include “I largely agree that girls and boys are educated both in co-education,” “if they educated in co-education system,” and “the girls has no confident,” where clause structure, verb forms, or subject–verb agreement are faulty. Articles and prepositions are also frequently missing or incorrect, as in “in respectful way” and “attention in studies.” These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Practise building accurate sentences with “although,” “because,” and “while,” and check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb before adding further detail.
