Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's rapidly changing world, many countries government allows boys and girls to get education from the same school, this has became a matter of considerable debate. While some people believe that allowing both the genders to study in the same school is beneficial for their future, while others argue that boys and girls should have separate schools according to their sex.

I strongly disagree with the idea of separating the students of different genders to single-sex schools, as a mixed or co-educational schools better prepare students for the real world and promote social equality. Firstly, co-educational schools provides a natural environment that reflects society. In everyday life, adults are most likely to communicate at work with all kinds of genders. If boys and girls are seperated during their primary years, they may struggle in having healthy communication and social skills with the opposite sex.

Secondly, if they are being isolated, from the opposite gender, they might have misconceptions for each other. For instance, during the classes of human biological science they might think In different way for each other. Mixed classrooms allows student compete and collaborate academically. For example, girls and boys can compete in all the subjects like mathematics, science, and the humanities when learning side by side.

In conclusion, although some believe different schools for the girls and boys must be advantages. I believe that they must be set to study in a mixed or a co-educational schools. This primarily because they can easily built a social relation with their opposite gender and can be academically beneficial for them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you strongly oppose single-sex schooling, and the response addresses the question by giving reasons for co-education. The points about preparing students for adult communication and encouraging academic competition are relevant, with examples such as studying mathematics and science together. This meets the task well overall. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: the claim that separation can create misconceptions is followed by an unclear reference to biology classes, so the reader cannot see exactly how this supports your argument. The opposing view is introduced but not explained in any detail. To strengthen the response, clarify that example and develop one counterargument before explaining why you disagree.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main position is easy to follow. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. This gives the response coherent overall organisation. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. The repeated contrast in the introduction (“While… while…”) is awkward, and “For instance” introduces the biology example without making its relationship to misconceptions clear. The conclusion repeats the main points rather than drawing them together. Use clearer links between each claim and its explanation, and vary transitions so that the progression feels more natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “co-educational,” “social equality,” “misconceptions,” and “collaborate academically,” which helps communicate the central argument. There is also an attempt to use more formal language. However, the range is uneven, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “all kinds of genders,” “built a social relation,” and “different schools… must be advantages.” Spelling errors such as “seperated” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall position, but they make parts of the argument less precise. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “If boys and girls are separated… they may struggle” and a reason clause beginning “as.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “countries government allows” needs a possessive form and plural agreement, while “co-educational schools provides” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening sentence also joins two independent ideas with a comma, and the final sentence has an incorrect verb form in “can easily built.” These patterns limit grammatical control. Practise checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and use punctuation to separate complete clauses.
