Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, Co-education schools have become popular in the world. While some people argue that single-sex schools are more beneficial than mixed schools, I strongly believe the benefits of teaching boys and girls together outweighs the drawbacks as girls and boys in mixed schools will mentor one another to improve their academic perfomance.
When boys and girls share classroom they tend to assist one another in weak areas. It is believed that boys are good at Mathematics and Science while girls are good at Art subjects. When girls and boys are assisting one another they will boost their grades therefore, improving academic performance. For example, students from mixed schools with strict rules tend to perform better than students from single-sex schools.
On the other hand, mixed schools build the learners confidence and self-esteem. Because there is frequent interaction with classmates of different genda self-esteem is built which can be attributed to exposure. This prepares the students for life after graduation. Moreover, they will meet people from a different genda hence they will not be shy to interact. For instance, employees trained at a mixed school tend to perform better at leardership positions. Therefore, mixed schools are better than single-sex schools.
Critics argue that, In co-education concentration especially among adolescent is minimal this can be attributed to sexual relationships which are common during this stage. This can be overcomed by imposing strict rules and frequent counselling sessions. For example, the number of teenager pregnancies is higher in mixed schools than in singe-sex schools.
In conclusion, mixed schools are better as they help in bulding confidence and students will be mentoring each other to boost academic perfomance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you strongly favour co-education, and you address both its benefits and a concern about distraction and teenage relationships. The points about students helping one another academically and developing confidence are relevant, with examples offered to support them. However, some claims are asserted rather than explained—for instance, the link between mixed schooling and better leadership performance is not developed, and the claim about pregnancy rates is not connected fully to your response to the opposing view. The academic-subject stereotypes also need qualification or evidence. To strengthen the response, explain how each example supports your position and develop the counterargument and rebuttal more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting benefits, a paragraph acknowledging a drawback, and a conclusion. The progression from academic support to confidence and then to the opposing view is easy to follow. You use signposts such as “On the other hand,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion,” which help identify the stages of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “Therefore” appears repeatedly, and the relationship between the pregnancy example and the claim that rules and counselling can address the problem could be made more explicit. Several sentences run together without clear punctuation, making transitions less smooth. Use linking expressions selectively and make the logical connection between each example and its point explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “academic performance,” “self-esteem,” “exposure,” and “counselling sessions.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, such as “different genda” for “different gender” or, more naturally, “the opposite sex,” and “perform better at leadership positions.” Spelling errors such as “perfomance,” “leardership,” “singe-sex,” and “bulding” also reduce accuracy. Repeated use of “better” and “students” limits variety. Aim for precise collocations and check spelling; for example, use “succeed in leadership roles” and “academic achievement.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a concession in the introduction (“While some people argue…”) and a conditional-style explanation of how interaction may build confidence. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems recur. For example, “the benefits … outweighs” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “When boys and girls share classroom” needs an article and plural form. The sentence beginning “Critics argue that” joins several ideas without clear sentence boundaries, and “Because there is frequent interaction…” is a fragment as written. Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and practise combining clauses with accurate punctuation. This will make your varied sentence attempts clearer and more controlled.
