Student answer (Band 6.5)

Co-education is a widely utilized platform upheld by many schools around the world, providing education to boys and girls at the same environment, however some might deem gender-based education a more appropriate alternative. I support the notion of mixed- schools, since it allows interaction with opposite gender from a young age, promoting tolerance, equality and help to sustain interactive communication which are integral for a healthy society.

Mixed schools are advantageous for both boys and girls, as they get to build communication from adolescence ensuring tolerance among each other. This way children learn good behaviour and general ettiquete on acceptable manners when interacting with opposite gender. Co-education allows children to be more socially aware and adaptive to inexplicable social norms. They get to challenge the societal expectations and help to break the patriarchal traditions. For instance, girls are expected to upheld traditional roles of cooking and nurturing while boys are expected to play outside and work. Co-education ensures both boys and girls are exposed to all environments and create equality among all, giving them the freedo of choice and individuality.

However, some parents fear mixed schools might affect children in the way they interact with each other, demanding the separation of schools based on gender only. Although this might come as an anxious response from parents who believe in traditional sancity and uphold orthodox religious orders, the impact of gender-based schools might affect children in the long run. Both boys and girls will face awkward social interactions when they become adults which will result in detrimental mindset and behaviour. Prevelance of misogyny and misandry will be unavoidable and it will be diffcult to unlearn the patriarchal learnings that affect both genders.

Thus, I believe in order to create an equal, hospitable and tolerant society, the role of co-education is significant. The mixed education environment ensure children are aware of the needs and societal standards, creating individuals who interact with opposite gender with respectable behaviour and essence of empathy and tolerance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear throughout: you support co-education, and you address the opposing concern that mixed schools may worry parents. The reasons about learning tolerance, challenging gender expectations, and developing social confidence are relevant, with the example of traditional roles for girls and boys helping to illustrate your argument. This meets the task well, but some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that single-sex schooling makes misogyny and misandry “unavoidable” is broad and would be stronger with a more specific explanation or example. To develop the response further, explain more precisely how everyday interaction at school builds equality and why separation may limit that learning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs consider benefits and concerns, and the conclusion restates your position. Connectors such as “However,” “Although,” and “Thus” make the main relationships between ideas clear. Within paragraphs, though, some points are joined in a way that feels crowded, particularly the sequence about social awareness, societal expectations, traditional roles, and individuality. The reference in “This way” is also somewhat general, so the reader must infer which preceding idea it refers to. For stronger progression, give each paragraph a clearer central point, then explain and illustrate it before moving to the next claim; vary linking devices rather than relying mainly on explicit transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary and attempt less common expressions, including “societal expectations,” “patriarchal traditions,” and “detrimental mindset.” These choices help communicate an academic argument, and the overall meaning remains clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “at the same environment,” “build communication,” and “the impact … might affect children.” There are also spelling errors, including “ettiquete,” “freedo,” “Prevelance,” and “diffcult,” which reduce precision. Aim for natural combinations and check spelling carefully: for example, say students “study in the same environment” and “develop communication skills.” Using fewer ambitious expressions accurately will be more effective than choosing formal-sounding phrases that do not fit the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “since,” “as,” and “Although.” Most sentences communicate your meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. In the opening, “providing education to boys and girls at the same environment” has an incorrect preposition and an unclear sentence connection; the sentence also needs stronger punctuation around “however.” Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “the role of co-education is significant” followed by “The mixed education environment ensure,” where “ensures” is needed. Other examples include “girls are expected to upheld” rather than “are expected to uphold,” and “Both boys and girls will face … which will result,” where the reference of “which” is unclear. Review agreement, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries while retaining your complex structures.
