Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries boys and girls are educated in co-education while some people argue that single sex schools are more beneficial for students. I strongly disagree with this view because co-education helps students to build confidence and social skills.

To begin with, in some parts of world students are receiving their education in co-education system. Studying in mixed schools benefits students in several ways, initially it removes the difference between boys and girls and makes them equal. Furthermore it promotes social interaction, students interact with each other, share ideas, work together on different tasks and builds social skills. For instance, students who participated in mixed group projects they learn to communicate with male and female, respect each other ideas and it would be useful for them in future as they stepped into universities and professional workplace as don't hesitate to deal with any gender. As a result, they know to interact effectively with both genders.

On the other hand, some people believe that educating boys and girls in separate schools provides a better environment to study. This is because students feel less distracted by opposite gender and concentrate on their studies. For example, some students feels shy or nervous in front of opposite gender, whereas studying in separate schools students are comfortable. However, i strongly disagree with the idea of students studying in single sex schools as they lack communication skills and confidence.

In conclusion, although separate schools are providing comfortable environment for students, I believe that co-education is far better because it develops better communication skills and confidence among students and prepare them for their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly disagree that single-sex schools are more beneficial, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both sides by explaining how mixed schools can develop social skills and acknowledging that separate schools may help some students feel less distracted. The example about group projects is relevant and supports your main argument. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, you say co-education “makes them equal” without showing how, and the claim that students in single-sex schools “lack communication skills and confidence” is broad and not supported with an example. Develop these ideas with clearer reasoning or evidence so that all parts of your argument are equally convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. The progression from the benefits of mixed education to the case for separate schools is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some linking is mechanical, and ideas within the first body paragraph are crowded together. The sentence beginning “For instance” contains several points about communication, respect, and future workplaces, making the relationship between them less clear. There is also some repetition of “social skills,” “communication skills,” and “interact.” Use clearer sentence boundaries and more varied referencing to make connections smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “social interaction,” “concentrate,” “professional workplace,” and “opposite gender.” These choices make your main ideas understandable, and you attempt to express more specific concepts than simply saying that schools are good or bad. However, several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “educated in co-education,” “difference between boys and girls,” and “respect each other ideas.” Repetition of “students,” “skills,” and “gender” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn common collocations for education and social development, and choose precise expressions—for example, describing equality as equal opportunities rather than saying mixed schooling “makes them equal.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause with “although” and a reason introduced by “because.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “students interact with each other … and builds social skills” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “some students feels” should use a plural verb. The sentence beginning “For instance, students who participated…” shifts awkwardly between past and present forms and becomes difficult to control. Capitalise “I” consistently, and check punctuation where two independent clauses are joined by a comma. More accurate control of these structures would strengthen the response.
