Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many parts of the world girls and boys are educated together in co-educational or mixed schools. Some people think that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single sex schools.

I am not agree with this view because of several reasons.

First of all it will put a huge burden on the goverment budget. Goverment has to construct separate buildings for boys and girls.

Secondly schools have to hire more teachers which cause a burden on the school system. It is not easy to arrange many teachers for different classes. It will cause a hardle in runing schools system smoothly. There is a private school in my home town which was offering single sex education. They hired two separate buildings in town at two different spots. First problem they face was the number of teachers, they have to hire more teachers. This put a huge burden on the school budget. Soon the management found it difficult to pay each teacher on time as a result of which some teachers left their job. This cause a damage to the study of the students. The mamngement also face another problem that was a rent of the buildings. So, founder and management together make a decision , they decided to conduct the co- education. Than they called a parent teacher meeting and had opinion on this 90 perecent parent were agree on this. Now that school is one of the famous schools in our town .

Co- education in my opinion also give a confidence and self grooming because these students have to work in differents fields in future, in many fields girls and boys work together. So, if they studied in single sex schools they will not be able to work in such system.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree that single-sex schooling is more beneficial, and you give relevant reasons about costs, staffing and students’ preparation for working with both sexes. The detailed example of the local school supports your argument and shows how financial pressures affected its operation. You address both the practical consequences of separate schools and a potential benefit of co-education. However, the discussion is uneven: the final point about confidence and future workplaces is asserted rather than explained, and the example focuses mainly on the school’s finances rather than directly comparing students’ educational outcomes. Develop this point with a specific explanation or example, and clarify why the benefits of mixed schooling outweigh any advantages of single-sex education.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable progression: it states a position, presents financial and staffing concerns, gives a supporting example, and ends with a point about students’ future working lives. Paragraphing helps distinguish the introduction from the main discussion, and signposts such as “First of all” and “Secondly” make the reasons easy to identify. However, the long central paragraph combines several stages of the school example, making the progression harder to follow. Some links are mechanical or unclear, particularly “This cause a damage” and the transition from the example to “Co- education in my opinion.” Use separate paragraphs for the main reasons and the example, and connect each paragraph explicitly to your overall argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “co-educational,” “single sex education,” “school budget,” and “parent teacher meeting.” The account of the school also includes some useful phrases about hiring staff and paying teachers. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “a hardle in runing schools system smoothly,” “a damage to the study,” and “self grooming.” Spelling errors, including “goverment,” “mamngement,” and “perecent,” are noticeable and reduce precision. Aim for more accurate, natural expressions and check spelling carefully; this will make your argument clearer and more formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use mostly straightforward sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas through clauses such as “as a result of which some teachers left their job.” This allows you to explain a sequence of events, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “I am not agree” has an incorrect verb form, while “schools have to hire more teachers which cause” has problems with agreement and clause structure. In “90 perecent parent were agree,” the verb pattern and plural form are also incorrect. Practise accurate present and past forms, subject–verb agreement, and sentence boundaries. Building complex sentences carefully, rather than joining several ideas at once, will improve clarity.
