In many parts of the world girls and boys are educated together in co-educational or mixed schools. Some people think that girls and boys benefit from being educated separately in single-sex schools. To what extent do you agree with this view?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge and experience. Write at least 250 words.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

It is difficult to choose me weather the co education is good or bad.Because it provide benefits as well as disadvantages.

The benefits of co education are respect, confidant, intelligence and to handle situation. As these benefits can play a role in the growth of country . Both genders work hard to achieve their goal and support country.

The disadvantage of coducation and very horribe and outlandish. The biggest disadvantage is to fell in bad activities that is enough to distory the moral and country and system. The second is the both genders fell in love and don't pay their attention to their studies. They just wmated for gatherings and event to meetup . ImThis damger is that both genders make cheat on other..They don't respect with each feeling. Because it is difficult to choose wheather he or she goes to fhis boy or girl.

Form my opinion the co education is not allowed because its darkside is more danger than that of soft side. Also the Islam is not allowed this so it should not be allowed.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You address the topic by mentioning possible benefits of mixed education and explaining why you oppose it, so your position is ultimately identifiable. However, the response only minimally answers the question: it does not clearly explain the benefits of single-sex schools, and several claims about mixed schools—such as students falling in love or engaging in “bad activities”—are asserted rather than supported with relevant examples or reasoning. The reference to Islam is also brief and does not explain how it supports your argument. The response is 176 words, below the required 250, which limits the opportunity to develop your ideas. To improve, state your degree of agreement directly and develop two relevant reasons with explanation and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: you begin with an introduction, present benefits and disadvantages, and finish with your opinion. Connectors such as “The biggest disadvantage” and “The second” help signal the order of points. However, progression is difficult to follow because the benefits and disadvantages are not developed in separate, clearly structured paragraphs, and some sentences run together or shift abruptly. For example, the move from students’ attention to studies to “gatherings and event” and then to cheating is not clearly explained. The conclusion repeats your view without drawing the reasons together. Use one paragraph for each main idea, and make links between claims explicit with accurate transitions and clear references.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate a few basic ideas, including “benefits,” “disadvantages,” “respect,” and “studies.” You also attempt more emphatic language, such as “darkside” and “outlandish,” but these choices are sometimes inaccurate or unsuitable for an academic essay. Frequent spelling and word-choice problems—including “confidant,” “coducation,” “horribe,” “distory,” and “wmated”—make parts of the response difficult to understand. Some phrases, such as “fell in bad activities” and “respect with each feeling,” do not express the intended meaning naturally. Build a reliable range of topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations; for instance, use “engage in harmful behaviour” and “respect one another’s feelings.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a few longer structures, including “Because it provide benefits as well as disadvantages” and “As these benefits can play a role in the growth of country,” but these are incomplete or incorrectly formed clauses. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries can obscure meaning. Examples include “it provide benefits,” “Both genders work hard,” and “the both genders fell in love”; the opening also joins a fragment beginning “Because” to the previous sentence. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, particularly in “studies. They” and “side.Also.” Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and articles. Then add a small number of accurate complex sentences using “because,” “although,” or “while.”
