Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays in many parts of the globe most people think that boys and girls benefit from being educated in seperate schools rather than in co-educational or mixed schools. I agree with this view as there are many valid reasons and examples attached to this view.

In many areas including urban and rural, all families have a trust issue on co-educational or mixed schools and in addition to this reason they want their children to get educated in individual schools. I agree to this statement as there are many cases in which boys of higher classes misbehave with junior girls and in many areas FIR's get registered for Rape and Murder cases as well.

I was having a cousin sister and she used to study in 11th standard in a mixed school at Rajendra Place, New Delhi. On 15th february 2017 she went missing from the school ground at 12:00 pm and on 17th february she was sent in a courier box with all chopped pieces of her body with all blood stains, after investigating police found that 3 boys of her class were jealous of her and due to personal grudges they murdered her in the backyard of the school where there was no cctv cameras. Later the boys were punished with death sentence on the birthday of the girl they murdered as a tribute to her.

Majorly this view is very correct but many people think that if their child will study in a co-educational school they will get a good composure with more confidence in their life which is correct at some extent but safety is more important than confidence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that single-sex schools offer benefits, and you give safety as your main reason. The account of your cousin provides a specific example, while the final paragraph acknowledges the counterargument that mixed schools can build confidence. However, the response develops safety almost entirely through one extreme case, so the broader claim about how separate schooling benefits students is not sufficiently explained. The opening also presents the view as what “most people think,” rather than directly framing the issue, and the confidence counterargument is only briefly addressed. To strengthen the response, explain more generally how single-sex education could improve students’ safety or learning, and weigh that benefit against the social advantages of co-education.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph about safety, a personal example, and a concluding qualification. This makes your main position reasonably easy to follow. However, the progression is not always smooth: the second paragraph moves from families’ “trust issue” to serious crimes without explaining the connection, and the long account of the incident dominates the argument. Linking phrases such as “In addition to this reason” and “Majorly this view” are awkward or imprecise, while “this view” is repeated without always making the reference clear. Use clearer topic sentences and transitions, and organise the example around the point it supports. A more balanced paragraph on confidence and social development would also improve the overall progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “co-educational,” “jealous,” “personal grudges,” and “confidence,” and the reader can understand your central argument. However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations sound unnatural, such as “trust issue,” “get educated in individual schools,” and “good composure with more confidence.” There are also noticeable spelling and form errors, including “seperate,” “february,” and “cctv.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and accurate spelling, and avoid relying on broad expressions such as “this view” when a more specific term—such as “single-sex education”—would make your meaning clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if their child will study in a co-educational school,” and you use clauses to explain the example. However, control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. For instance, “I was having a cousin sister” uses an unsuitable tense and construction, while “all families have a trust issue” has problems with number and article use. The long sentence beginning “On 15th february 2017” joins many events and details, making the relationships between clauses difficult to follow. The final sentence also has an awkward conditional form. Practise accurate past-tense narration and conditional structures, and divide long sentences into shorter units with clear punctuation.
