Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debated on co-education. Some people argue that it is beneficial for students because they learn more skills like communication skills despite only education. Whereas others believe that it is not helpful because the some students failed to do better because of the fear of being judged by opposite gender. Both statements have valid arguments. This essay will discuss both views.

On the one hand, The people who supports the single-sex schools argue that both boys and girls have different learning styles. Teaching them separately allows teachers to use the methods that suits the genders. Students may feel more confident and can participate in co-curricular activities without being judged by opposite genders. As a result, they may be able to perform better in their academic and concentrate more on their studies.

On the other hand, co-educational schools provide many important benefits. Boys and girls learn to communicate, cooperate and respect each others which can be beneficial for them in future. Because in social life, people work with mixed environment where they communicate with opposite genders. Furthermore, studying enables them to obtain equal career opportunities. Students can also develop healthy friendships and improve their confidence when interacting with people of the opposite gender.

From my perspective, the advantages of co-education outweigh its drawbacks. Although separate schools provide chance to concentrate more in their educational works. Co-education enables students to prepare themselves for real-life situation where all the people work together.

In conclusion, while single-sex schools provide more social benefits , I believe that co-educational schools provide more balanced education by developing both academic knowledge and essential social skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and state a clear preference for co-education: “the advantages of co-education outweigh its drawbacks.” The discussion of single-sex schools includes a relevant point about confidence and participation, while the co-education paragraph explains social skills and preparation for working life. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that separate teaching methods suit different genders needs a specific explanation or example, and “equal career opportunities” is not clearly linked to mixed schooling. The conclusion also says single-sex schools provide “more social benefits,” which conflicts with the earlier argument and appears to misstate your position. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or example and keep your stance consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for each view, your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow, and the main ideas are generally grouped appropriately. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, the opening says the essay will discuss both views, while the final opinion paragraph and conclusion repeat the same position, and the conclusion’s claim about single-sex schools providing “more social benefits” disrupts the logical thread. Some links are also mechanical, and “Because in social life” is an incomplete transition. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and ensure the conclusion accurately reflects the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “co-educational schools,” “single-sex schools,” “co-curricular activities,” “career opportunities,” and “healthy friendships.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt to express abstract ideas about confidence and social preparation. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “ongoing debated” is not a natural phrase, “fear of being judged by opposite gender” is awkward, and “mixed environment” does not clearly express the intended idea. There are also word-form and spelling slips, such as “each others.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding more difficult vocabulary; for instance, use “ongoing debate,” “the opposite sex,” and “mixed-gender workplaces.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause beginning “Although” and a relative clause in “where they communicate with opposite genders.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include subject–verb agreement in “The people who supports” and “methods that suits,” the article and determiner problems in “because the some students,” and the incomplete sentence “Although separate schools provide chance to concentrate more in their educational works.” The opening fragment beginning “Whereas” also needs to be joined to a complete clause. Check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and revise subordinate clauses so each sentence has a complete main clause.
