Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify some relevant features, including the USA’s high rate, Korea’s low position, and increases in Australia and England. However, the overview is inaccurate: Spain and France do not remain steady overall, and Korea rises from about 25% to 35%, rather than declining. The USA’s largest rise is not confined to 1970–2000; its rate continues upward to a projected 74% in 2020. Several details are also unclear or incorrect, such as Australia “plateaued” and Italy being around 38% in 2010. The response therefore reports only a limited selection of the graph and does not consistently represent its main trends. Focus the overview on the broad upward pattern and the contrast between the highest and lowest countries, then support it with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has separate paragraphs, and it moves from a brief introduction to an overview and then to country details. This gives it some basic organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview contains conflicting claims, and the later paragraphs shift between countries without a clear grouping or comparison. For example, Korea, Australia and France are discussed together, followed by Austria, England and Italy, but the reason for these groupings is not apparent. Linking words are sparse, and some references, such as “its value” and “these countries,” are not always clear. Organise details into meaningful comparisons—for instance, the highest-rising countries and those with lower rates—and use clear transitions to show how each point relates to the overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “overweight rates,” “proportion,” “plateaued,” and “projected,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “in the down situation,” “maximum rise,” and “third lower position” are not natural ways to describe graph trends or rankings. There are also spelling errors, including “upcomming,” “choosen,” “frace,” and “odf.” Aim for precise, conventional graph language such as “declined,” “the largest increase,” “remained stable,” and “the third-lowest rate.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard collocations will make your comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “graph present” and “Spain and France was,” while tense and verb forms are faulty in “it goes slightly up” and “the England was … and grows up.” Articles and sentence construction also need attention, as in “The Korea was in the lowest position” and “The Austria was in the mid.” Some sentences lack clear grammatical connections, which makes the intended meaning harder to follow. Practise forming accurate past-tense descriptions and use a consistent structure, such as “The rate in France remained stable before rising.” Check agreement, articles and punctuation when editing.
