Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You provide a relevant overview, identifying the broad rise across the countries and noting that the US was highest while Korea remained lowest. You also include several useful comparisons, such as the US reaching about 75% and Australia about 64% by 2020. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: England is shown at roughly 69% in 2019, not around 70% in 2020, and Canada is about 55% in 2020 rather than 65%. The statement that Italy and Korea both fluctuated is not a strong summary of their overall upward trends. Several countries’ starting points and end values are grouped together without enough precision, so the main features are only partly and unevenly reported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs that group countries for comparison. This helps the reader follow the general subject. However, progression within the body is sometimes difficult to track because several countries and figures are compressed into long sentences, particularly the sentence beginning “England and Canada” and the one about Australia and France. Linking is also limited, and “notably” is repeated without always clarifying the relationship between points. The final sentence returns to Korea’s position rather than providing a clear concluding comparison. Organise the data into more distinct groups and use clearer transitions to show how each group compares.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for describing trends, including “increased,” “surged,” “reached,” and “fluctuated,” and the meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more descriptive phrasing, such as “remained the lowest.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this task: “on going” is not an appropriate description of the time period, “on huge distance” is unclear, and “it became to 64%” does not express the intended rise naturally. Spelling errors such as “drammatically,” “figues,” and “flcuatuated” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise collocations such as “rose to,” “a substantial gap,” and “the proportion stood at.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentences using relative clauses and linking words, for example, “which both significantly surged,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur in “Spain and Austria was” and “Italy and Korea was,” while “England and Canada had began” uses an incorrect verb form. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: the overview has a comma splice, and several sentences run multiple comparisons together without clear separation. Capitalisation is inconsistent, as in “in 1970, The US” and “korea.” These errors sometimes make relationships between figures harder to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and past-tense forms, and divide comparisons into shorter, complete sentences.
