Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features and trends in the provided line graph. However, the overview is somewhat weak, as it lacks a clear, concise summary of the overall trends across all nine countries. While you have selected key data points, the report is essentially a list of individual country statistics rather than a comparative analysis. To improve, you should group countries by similar trends (e.g., those with sharp increases versus those with stability) and ensure the overview highlights the most significant general patterns rather than just repeating specific figures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical and repetitive. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally', but these are sometimes used incorrectly or do not logically connect the sentences. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of information. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus rather than just listing countries one by one.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases such as 'increased', 'lowest', and 'percentage'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'touched zenith point' and 'high weight', which sound unnatural in an academic context. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked', or 'a significant rise'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you describe the trends more accurately and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The line graph illustrate'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. Many sentences are simple, and attempts at more complex structures often result in errors that can impede clarity. For example, 'France percentage in 1990 30% France shows ups and down' is grammatically fragmented. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and work on using prepositions and articles correctly.
