Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully identifies the main features and trends of the graph. You have provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the nine countries. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the data points are accurately interpreted. For instance, you mention the USA was at 45% in 1970, but the graph shows it starting lower. Additionally, the comparison between countries is generally clear, but some groupings could be more precise to better highlight the 'main features'. Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'similarly', and 'in contrast' to link ideas. However, the progression between sentences in the body paragraphs is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between discussing the USA and England could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the overview from the detailed data analysis, which helps the reader follow your argument. Overall, the structure is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'predominated', 'proportion', and 'moderate rise'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'demostrates' and 'reular', and some awkward phrasing like 'made up around 54% to 55%'. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, the precision of your word choice could be improved to better reflect the data. The vocabulary is adequate to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'USA records the highest' (missing 'The'), 'korea has' (needs capitalization), and 'England comes to the second place' (should be 'takes second place'). There are also issues with preposition usage and article omission. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear and the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the consistent use of articles with country names.
