Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, but the execution is inconsistent. While you identify some trends, the data reporting is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, you state that Italy showed a 'downward trend', which is not supported by the provided data. Furthermore, the description of the countries is incomplete, and the lack of clear, accurate data points makes it difficult for the reader to follow the trends. To improve, focus on selecting the most significant data points (the highest and lowest rates) and ensuring that the figures mentioned are precise and correctly attributed to the specific countries shown in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'Moreover', they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which country is being discussed. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that your sentences flow logically from one to the next by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to the correct subjects.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. You frequently use incorrect terminology, such as 'overweight prices' instead of 'overweight rates' or 'overweight percentages'. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'climed' (climbed) and 'goup' (went up). These errors occasionally impede communication. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked', or 'a significant increase'. Avoid repeating the same verbs and ensure you are using the correct collocations for describing trends in a graph.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'upward trend was showed by U.S.A', 'Canada inclined slowly and it were observed'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of passive voice for describing data and ensuring subject-verb agreement. Proofreading for common errors like missing 'the' or incorrect verb forms will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
