Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the highest and lowest rates and noting trends. However, the data reporting is often inaccurate or confusing. For instance, the description of Korea, France, Australia, and Italy as starting at 25% in 1998 is not clearly supported by the visual data, and the grouping of countries is somewhat arbitrary. While the overview is present, it lacks precision. The response would benefit from a more systematic approach to comparing the data points rather than listing them in a way that obscures the overall trends. The projection aspect is mentioned but could be more clearly integrated into the analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the transition 'Secondly' which does not logically follow the previous paragraph's focus. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when grouping countries together without specifying which data point belongs to which country. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed, making it difficult to track the comparisons between the nine countries effectively. Improved use of linking words and clearer referencing would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and sometimes repetitive. There are instances of awkward word choices, such as 'lowest shared' instead of 'lowest proportion' and 'initiated from' instead of 'started at'. The phrase 'early twenties' is used incorrectly to refer to a time period, and 'touched in' is not a standard collocation for describing data trends. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision in terminology prevents the response from reaching a higher band. More varied and accurate vocabulary related to data description is required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Canada were at 50%'), incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'reached at top'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'despite Australia is the one which had most drastic increase'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and spacing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and detract from the overall quality of the writing.
