Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified the main trend (an upward trajectory) and selected some key data points, the analysis is incomplete. You have not covered all nine countries mentioned in the prompt, and the description of the data is too brief to provide a comprehensive summary. To improve, ensure you group the data logically and provide a more thorough overview of the trends across all categories to meet the length requirement and demonstrate a fuller understanding of the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and a body paragraph. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of sufficient detail. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'while', but the connection between sentences is sometimes mechanical. The paragraphing is present, but the body paragraph is underdeveloped, making the overall structure feel incomplete. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words to connect your comparisons and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus, perhaps grouping countries with similar trends together to create a more logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors, such as 'apperant', 'showen', and 'reprsented'. You have used some topic-specific vocabulary like 'upward trend' and 'fluctuation', which is positive. However, the range is limited, and the errors in word choice and spelling occasionally distract the reader. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'fluctuate' would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'all countries showen an upward trend' (should be 'showed') and 'USA was the first country of the overweight proportion' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors occur frequently and affect the fluency of the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex forms.
