Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the line graph, but it fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. While it identifies some specific data points, the selection of information is somewhat haphazard and lacks a coherent comparison between the nine countries. The report mentions several countries but fails to group them effectively or highlight the most significant differences or similarities. The summary is underdeveloped, and the lack of a clear, analytical overview prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on identifying the most prominent trends—such as the overall upward trajectory in most countries versus the stability in others—rather than listing individual data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of logical progression between sentences, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical. For example, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the concluding paragraph does not effectively synthesize the information. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the nine countries. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast,' 'meanwhile,' 'subsequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of inaccurate word choice, such as 'coming time' instead of 'future' and 'nine different state' instead of 'countries'. The term 'fat people' is informal and inappropriate for an academic report. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'percentage' and 'fluctuate,' the overall range is insufficient to convey complex information with precision. To improve, focus on learning academic collocations and synonyms for describing trends, such as 'climb,' 'plateau,' or 'significant increase,' and avoid informal language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'this graph illustrate'), missing articles ('in USA'), and incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'Italy go up'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring verbs agree with their subjects, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions in an academic context.
