Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the task. While you have identified some main features, such as the USA having the highest rates and Korea the lowest, the analysis is incomplete. The response ends abruptly mid-sentence, meaning the data is not fully reported or compared. To improve, you must ensure you cover the entire period and provide a complete summary of the trends. The failure to complete the response prevents a higher score, as the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay has a basic structure with an introduction and an overview, but the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow. You use some cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'As clearly shown in graph', but the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is unfinished, which makes the overall arrangement feel disjointed. To improve, ensure that each paragraph is fully developed and that you use a wider range of linking words to connect your comparisons between the different countries more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You use terms like 'proportion', 'estimated', and 'dramatically', which are appropriate for describing graphs. However, there is some repetition, and the phrasing is sometimes simplistic. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'increase' or 'decrease' and use more precise collocations when describing data trends. For example, instead of 'high weight', use 'overweight prevalence'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('in graph' instead of 'in the graph') and issues with verb tense consistency ('Italy experience' instead of 'Italy experienced'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the clarity of your report. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Ensure that you proofread your work to catch these minor but persistent errors.
