Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the trends for the USA and England. However, the data interpretation is significantly flawed. For instance, you mention 1870 as a starting point, whereas the graph clearly starts in 1970. Additionally, the description of the data is often inaccurate, such as stating the USA was at 45% in 1970 (the graph shows a much lower figure). While you attempt to compare countries, the lack of precision in reading the data points prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure you carefully verify the years and percentages against the visual evidence provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'At the similarly' and 'the Canada' are grammatically incorrect and disrupt the flow of ideas. While there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and a concluding summary, the internal cohesion within sentences is frequently weakened by awkward phrasing and incorrect referencing, which makes the text feel disjointed in several places.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

You demonstrate a limited range of vocabulary, often relying on repetitive structures. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'a assumption' (an assumption), 'moderate ration' (moderate ratio/rate), and 'britishers' (British people). The use of 'minimal figures' to describe a trend is also imprecise. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general topic, the lack of precision and the presence of errors in word formation and collocation limit the effectiveness of your communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Common issues include incorrect article usage (e.g., 'the Canada', 'the Italy'), subject-verb agreement errors, and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation is also problematic, with several comma splices where independent clauses are incorrectly joined. These errors are frequent and occasionally require the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning, which is characteristic of the Band 5 level.
