The line graph below shows past and current overweight rates, as well as a projected future overweight rate in nine selected countries.

Summarise the infonnation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line diagram provides information about the overweight rate trends in nine OECD countries.

Overall, the percentage of overweight increased in all nine countries. USA, England and Australia's percentage of people with overweight has surged throughout the period, while Spain, France and Korea had moderate increase in the percentage. The obesity in Italy, Canada and Austria had minimal rise in percentage throughout the period.

Between 1970 and 1980, the share of overweight people dropped by a margin in USA, but rose sharply from 1980 to 2020 and peaked at 75% at the end of the period. Around 1990, there were only around 34 percent of people overweight, which soared to 65% in 2020. England had the similar trend throughout the period, the share of obese people reached from 47% in 1990 to around 70% in 2020.

Spain, France and Korea had about 43%, 30% and 25% people with obesity, which climbed to 55%, 45% and 35% respectively at the end of the period.
