Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, such as the overall upward trend and the highest/lowest rates. However, it fails to address the 'projected future' aspect mentioned in the prompt, focusing only on past data. Furthermore, the inclusion of personal opinion in the conclusion ('people are losing discipline') is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1, which requires an objective summary of data. To improve, ensure all parts of the prompt are addressed and maintain a neutral, analytical tone throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into a single block of text, which lacks clear paragraphing. While there is a logical progression from general trends to specific country comparisons, the lack of paragraph breaks makes the text feel dense. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'followed by' and 'in conclusion', but the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical. To reach a higher band, use clear paragraphing to separate the introduction/overview from the detailed body paragraphs and improve the variety of linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. Phrases like 'most increase of overweight people' are slightly unnatural; 'highest proportion' or 'steepest rise' would be more accurate. There is also some repetition of basic terms like 'increase' and 'overweight'. The attempt to use 'longevity' is slightly misused in this context, as it refers to lifespan rather than the duration of a trend. Focus on using more precise collocations related to data description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'It show the rate' should be 'It shows the rate', and 'a total approximate to 50 years' is awkward phrasing. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'in the perspective of longevity'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and tense consistency.
