Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the graph, but the information provided is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, the description of trends in the USA and European countries is vague and does not clearly reflect the data provided. Several statements are contradictory or factually incorrect based on the graph, such as the claim that Korea showed a 'fluctuated' trend or the confusing description of the USA's trajectory. The overview is also poorly constructed, merely repeating the title rather than highlighting the key trends. To improve, focus on identifying clear peaks, troughs, and overall growth patterns rather than listing individual data points without context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often illogical. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes incorrect, such as 'In contract' (likely meant 'In contrast') and 'In 2000, Korea constituted of 30% in 2020'. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between countries. The lack of logical flow between sentences hinders the overall coherence of the report. Using a wider range of linking words correctly and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would significantly improve the structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'made up a decline', 'showed a fluctuated', and 'constituted of'. These errors occasionally impede communication, as the intended meaning is sometimes obscured by the incorrect usage of verbs and nouns. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'experienced a significant increase' instead of 'rose a dramatically', and ensure that you are using the correct parts of speech.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'USA made up a decline', and incorrect sentence structures, such as 'In USA proportion rose a dramatically'. Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms will help increase your accuracy.
