Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response identifies the main trends and provides data points for the countries mentioned. However, the report is somewhat disorganized and lacks a clear, analytical structure. While you have selected key features, the presentation of data is often repetitive and lacks a cohesive comparison between the countries. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated to highlight the most significant trends, such as the universal upward trajectory in overweight rates. To improve, focus on grouping countries with similar trends rather than listing them individually, which would allow for a more sophisticated summary of the information provided in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks effective paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive, with phrases like 'then' and 'increased up to' used excessively to link sentences. There is a lack of logical flow between the introduction, the overview, and the body of the report. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'in contrast', 'similarly', 'whereas') and organize your response into distinct paragraphs for the introduction, overview, and specific data comparisons.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use the same verbs, such as 'increased' and 'remains', throughout the text. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'overweight wage rate' (which is incorrect) and 'extreme of them'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. To improve, try to incorporate a broader range of synonyms for describing trends, such as 'soared', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a decline'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding sentence structure, punctuation, and verb tense consistency. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary conjunctions, such as 'its means Austria and Spain remains the same'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the control over basic grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on using full stops to separate independent clauses and ensure subject-verb agreement. Practicing the use of relative clauses and subordinating conjunctions will help you move toward more complex and accurate sentence construction.
