Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the data but fails to provide a clear overview or identify the most significant trends. The description of the data is fragmented and lacks a logical structure, making it difficult to follow the comparisons between countries. While some figures are mentioned, the lack of a clear summary of the main features—such as the overall upward trend across all nations—means the task is only partially addressed. The response relies on listing individual data points rather than synthesising the information, which is a requirement for Band 6 or higher. To improve, you must group information logically and provide a clear, concise overview of the main trends observed in the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate different aspects of the data. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'coming on to' and 'started', which makes the text feel mechanical and disjointed. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track which country or time period is being discussed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Similarly') and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping countries by their growth patterns or current status.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic verbs like 'started', 'increase', and 'came up'. There is a lack of precise terminology required for describing trends in a graph, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'projected to reach'. Some phrasing is awkward, such as 'IT can be visible', which is not standard academic English. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with the necessary precision. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing statistical data and avoid repeating the same verbs throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and missing articles (e.g., 'Usa is the highest', 'coming on the Italy and france'). Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, and the use of tenses is confusing, particularly when describing past and future projections. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, with few attempts at complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, correct use of articles, and ensuring that your verb tenses accurately reflect the timeframes mentioned in the prompt.
