Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have attempted to identify some trends, the analysis is superficial and lacks the necessary detail to fully cover the data provided in the graph. You have grouped countries together in a way that makes the specific data points difficult to follow, and you have not clearly distinguished between past, current, and projected future rates as requested by the prompt. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the main trends and select specific data points to support your descriptions rather than making vague generalizations about groups of countries.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. It consists of a single paragraph, which makes it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. There is a lack of logical sequencing; for example, jumping between different countries and time periods without clear transitions. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and sometimes inaccurate way, such as 'Alongside later in 1980s' and 'in contrast Korea'. To improve, you should organize your response into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific data comparisons. Use linking words like 'furthermore', 'however', and 'in comparison' to connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'rate' and 'overweight' without varying your language. There are also several errors in word choice and form, such as 'precent' (percent), 'full up there' (filled up their), and 'dramatically increase there' (dramatically increased their). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. To improve, try to use a wider variety of verbs to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'soared', 'remained stable', or 'declined'. Focus on using more precise academic terminology to describe statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'there is only the USA overweight rate data is presented'), confusion between 'there' and 'their', and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when you attempt more complex constructions. For instance, 'there starting overweight rate is among 25% to 49%' should be 'their starting overweight rate was between 25% and 49%'. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement, correct tense usage for past data, and the distinction between 'there', 'their', and 'they're'.
