Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the overall upward trend and the countries with the highest and lowest rates. However, the task is incomplete as the text ends abruptly mid-sentence ('france overweight rate increased to'). This failure to finish the summary and report on all data points significantly impacts the score. While the overview is present, the lack of completion means the task is not fully addressed. To improve, ensure all data groups are covered and the summary is brought to a logical conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, and there is a clear attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In detail', and 'Moving further'. However, the progression is interrupted by the incomplete final sentence, which leaves the reader without a sense of closure. Referencing is generally clear, but the mechanical nature of the transitions could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to connect the data points more fluidly rather than listing them sequentially.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, using terms like 'upward trend', 'proportion', and 'sharply increasing'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'fata related to canada' (data) and 'usa had nearly 45% of rate' (a rate of 45%). The repetition of 'overweight rate' throughout the text limits the range. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise synonyms and ensuring correct collocations when describing statistical trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the usa', 'the korea'), incorrect preposition usage, and issues with subject-verb agreement ('italy was having rate'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after some percentages and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and article usage.
