Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 98 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you have identified the main trend and provided a specific example for the USA, the response is significantly underdeveloped. You have not described the other eight countries mentioned in the prompt, nor have you provided a comprehensive overview of the projected future trends. To achieve a higher band, you must ensure all parts of the prompt are covered, including a clear comparison of the various countries and a summary of the data across the entire timeframe provided in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and an overview, the lack of development makes it difficult to assess your ability to manage cohesion. You use basic linking words like 'To begin with' and 'Overall', but the flow is interrupted by the abrupt ending. To improve, ensure you structure your report with a clear introduction, a distinct overview paragraph, and at least two body paragraphs that group data logically, using a wider range of cohesive devices to connect your sentences and ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'proportion of overweight' and 'overweight rates' are used frequently. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'data is calibrated' and 'followed an increasing trend during', which are not used in a natural way. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', or 'projected to rise'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetitive phrasing and demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect clarity. For example, 'in different nine countries' should be 'in nine different countries', and 'in 2020 the overweight rates in the USA was on its peak point' contains subject-verb agreement errors ('rates' vs 'was') and awkward phrasing. You rely mostly on simple sentence structures. To improve, you should aim to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, while ensuring that your subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are accurate throughout the text.
