Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph illustrates the previous and the present overweight rates, and forecasted the long run overweight proportion in nine distinct countries, from 1970 to 2020; units are measured in percentage.
Overall, the USA, England and Australia showed a similar upward trajectory, by contrast other countries(France, panada, Korea, Italy and Spain) showed a relatively slower increasement.
In 1970 the USA's people were less overweight, than took a sharp rise till in 2010, and the trend will be similar in the long run in the year of 2020. And it is the highest among all other countries rate. Meanwhile, nearly the 47% population of England were obese in 1990, before seeing a gradual rise till 2010 at around 62%, and continued to climb up at approximately 70% in 2020. The growth rate of Austria rocketed from shy of at 33% to 60% in 1980 to 2010 respectively, before following the same upward trajectory till 2020 around to 70%.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided relevant data points to support your descriptions. You covered all nine countries and made appropriate comparisons between the groups. However, there are some inaccuracies in the data reporting; for instance, you mention England reached 70% in 2020, but the graph shows a different figure. Additionally, the overview is slightly underdeveloped. To improve, ensure that your summary highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the overall upward trajectory across all nations) more clearly in the introduction or overview paragraph, and double-check your data transcription to ensure precision.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing specific countries. You use some cohesive devices such as 'meanwhile', 'by contrast', and 'lastly' to link ideas. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, the transition between the USA and England is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus to improve the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'upward trajectory', 'marginal drop', and 'levelled off'. However, there are several instances of non-standard word formation and collocation errors, such as 'increasement' (should be 'increase'), 'shy of at 33%' (awkward phrasing), and 'levelled of' (spelling error). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using standard collocations and ensure you are using the correct word forms when describing trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Korean people obesity rate were') and awkward sentence construction ('than took a sharp rise till in 2010'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and parentheses. While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
