Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to describe the data but fails to provide a clear overview or identify key trends effectively. The description of the data is fragmented and often inaccurate, such as stating that the USA was 'alone' in 1970 or describing countries 'jumping in' at specific dates, which misinterprets the nature of the graph. The response lacks a clear summary of the main features, such as the overall upward trend in overweight rates across all countries. The information provided is often confusing and does not accurately reflect the data presented in the graph, leading to a failure to fully address the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks logical progression. Paragraphing is ineffective, with the main body consisting of a single, dense paragraph that jumps between countries without a clear structure. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'jumped in' and 'showed'. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of data points. The overall arrangement of information is disjointed, and the lack of clear transitions between the past, current, and projected data points hinders the flow of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'overwiwght', 'acrosss', 'ratres', 'Eurpeon', 'showd', 'countires', 'alsao', 'whith', and 'Canda'. The word choice is often imprecise or inappropriate for an academic report, such as using 'took a little boom' or 'strike' to describe statistical trends. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with any degree of precision, and the persistent spelling errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect tense usage (e.g., 'since 1970 to 2020'), and poor sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary punctuation, such as 'Australia also took a slow start while,Spain showd a down curved graph line'. The use of complex structures is attempted but is consistently inaccurate, leading to confusion. Simple sentences are also prone to errors, and the overall control of grammar is weak, which significantly hinders the clarity of the report.
