Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the graph, but there are significant inaccuracies in the data reporting. For instance, stating that Korea stood at 30% in 2000 and that this was double the USA's rate in 2020 is factually incorrect based on standard OECD data trends for this task. Furthermore, the description of trends is often confusing, such as the claim that England was a 'secondary contribution' or the vague description of France's position. While the overview attempts to highlight the USA's dominance, the lack of precision in reporting the data points and the misinterpretation of the graph's trends prevent a higher score. The response needs to focus more on accurately identifying the key peaks and comparative trends.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, consisting of a single block of text. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'Overall', 'In addition', and 'Conversely', their usage is often mechanical or logically misplaced. For example, 'Conversely' is used to introduce a statement about Korea that does not logically contrast with the preceding sentence about Austria. The progression of ideas is disjointed, jumping between countries without a clear thematic or chronological order. To improve, you should group countries with similar trends together and use paragraph breaks to separate the overview from the detailed body analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately. Phrases like 'secondary contribution' and 'overlook England' do not convey the intended meaning in a data-reporting context. There is also repetitive use of 'surge' and 'increase'. While you attempt to use some academic vocabulary, the word choice is frequently unnatural or incorrect, such as 'Austria’s proportion of overweight only contributed nearly surge to 5%'. To reach a higher band, focus on using precise verbs for trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'plateaued', 'surpassed') and ensure that nouns are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage ('the USA', 'the 50 years'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. For example, 'France was situated a bit lower results than Italy' is grammatically incorrect. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper structure, such as 'Korea standing at 30% in 2000, which was nearly double that of USA in 2020', which lacks a main verb. You should focus on constructing complete sentences with a subject and a verb and work on the correct use of prepositions and articles.
