The line graph below shows past and current overweight rates, as well as a projected future overweight rate in nine selected countries.

Summarise the infonnation by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph compares the proportions of overweight people in nine selected OECD countries from the past to the present, with projections extending to 2020.

Overall, the proportion of overweight people is expected to increase in most countries. The USA has the highest rate throughout the period and is projected to remain the country with the largest proportion by 2020. In contrast, Korea has the lowest figures, although its rate is also expected to rise steadily.

The USA started at about 45% in the early 1970s, fell slightly to around 42% in the late 1970s, and then increased sharply, reaching approximately 60% in 2000. It is projected to climb further to about 74% by 2020. Canada and England also show substantial growth. Canada rises from roughly 48% in the early 1990s to nearly 69% in 2020, while England is expected to reach around 64%.

The remaining countries generally have lower rates. Spain increases gradually to approximately 55%, while Australia reaches about 46%. Austria and Italy fluctuate around the 40–45% range. France shows a moderate rise to about 42%, whereas Korea increases from around 25% to approximately 35% by 2020.
