Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main features of the graph, such as the high rates in the USA and the lower rates in Korea. However, the summary is hampered by inaccurate data reporting. For instance, stating that the USA starts at 45% and increases to 75% is not supported by the visual data provided. Furthermore, the grouping of countries is somewhat arbitrary, and the description of trends lacks precision. The response attempts to make comparisons, but the lack of clarity regarding the specific timeframes (past vs. projected) makes the overview less effective. To improve, ensure that data points are accurately extracted and that the distinction between past, current, and future projections is clearly articulated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'with the passage of time' and 'similarly'. The logical progression between sentences is sometimes weak, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the USA and Korea is abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall flow is hindered by awkward phrasing. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that transitions smoothly into the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'huge significant difference' and 'least amount can be seen' are imprecise and slightly unnatural. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'population of overweight rate', which is grammatically incorrect; 'rate' refers to a percentage, not a population. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. To improve, try to use more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'climb', 'plateau', or 'projected to reach'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the population of past, current and future overweight rate' and 'the USA starts with the 45%'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and brackets. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
