Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement. While you have identified the main trends, the analysis is superficial and lacks the necessary detail required for an Academic Task 1 response. You have not provided specific data points or sufficient comparisons between the nine countries mentioned. To improve, you must ensure you describe the data more thoroughly, including specific figures and timeframes, and ensure the response meets the length requirement to allow for a full development of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into short paragraphs, which helps with readability. However, the logical progression is weak due to the lack of sufficient detail. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical, with repetitive use of 'While' and 'Firstly'. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows logically into the next, creating a more cohesive narrative that connects the data points effectively rather than just listing them.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'proportions of overweight rates' and 'increase rate' are used in a way that lacks precision. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'in history' instead of 'historically' or 'in the past'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to trends and data, such as 'upward trajectory', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and ensure that collocations are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement and sentence structure. For example, 'USA, England and Australia leading others' is a fragment, and 'Korea is the lowest amongst all, though increased steadily' lacks a clear subject in the second clause. The range of structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. To improve, focus on using a mix of complex and compound sentences and proofread carefully to ensure that all sentences are complete and grammatically sound.
