Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the highest and lowest countries and noting general trends. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of specific data points is occasionally inaccurate or lacks precision, such as the claim that the USA rate 'decreased' from 46% (the graph shows a steady upward trend from 1970). Furthermore, the report lacks a clear, analytical overview that synthesizes the data effectively. While all countries are mentioned, the grouping of information is somewhat disjointed, and the lack of precise comparisons between countries limits the score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices. While some linking words like 'Furthermore' and 'In contrast' are used, they are sometimes applied mechanically. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs feels like a list of observations rather than a cohesive analysis of the data. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the internal structure of the second paragraph lacks a clear thematic focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic verbs like 'shows', 'increases', and 'rise'. Some word choices are unnatural or imprecise, such as 'peak the highest point' instead of 'reached a peak' or 'gradual boost up'. There are also minor errors in collocation and phrasing, such as 'falling other countries backward'. To improve, you should incorporate more varied reporting verbs and nouns related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surpassed', or 'a significant upward trajectory'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Spain and England shows', 'it's rate rise'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing ('a little beat decrease'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
