Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the task is incomplete; the description of the data is fragmented and stops mid-sentence ('at the least we have Korea who'). While the introduction attempts to outline the graph's purpose, the body paragraphs lack sufficient detail and fail to cover the nine countries mentioned in the prompt. The report does not provide a clear overview or a summary of the main trends, and the lack of completion prevents a full analysis of the data provided in the graph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks a logical structure due to its incomplete nature. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the abrupt ending prevents the development of a coherent argument or report. Cohesive devices are largely absent, and the flow between the introduction and the body is disjointed. The referencing is unclear, and the overall arrangement of information is insufficient to guide the reader through the data effectively. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked using appropriate transition words.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'gives the details about' and 'rate around' are used repeatedly, showing a lack of variety. There are also inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'research future' instead of 'projected future'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more specific terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuate', 'upward trend', 'peak', and 'proportion'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are issues with article usage (e.g., 'in USA'), missing prepositions, and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'England which whose rate started'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and the lack of punctuation and capitalization at the start of sentences further reduces the quality of the writing. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures. Focusing on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct use of articles will help improve your accuracy.
