Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response provides a summary of the main features, but it fails to accurately report the data. For instance, the claim that the USA rose by 35% in 2020 is inaccurate based on standard interpretations of such graphs, and the description of the trends is often vague or confusing. The report lacks a clear overview of the overall trends, and the grouping of countries is somewhat arbitrary. While the response attempts to compare the countries, the lack of precision in data reporting significantly impacts the quality of the task achievement. To improve, ensure that specific data points are accurately identified and that the overview highlights the most significant trends rather than just listing countries.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive feature. However, the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The connection between sentences is occasionally weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of trends across the different countries. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would help to improve the flow and coherence of the writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of inaccurate word choice, such as 'dynamatically rised' (should be 'dramatically rose') and 'stabled' (should be 'stable'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic information, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There are also issues with word formation and collocation. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends (e.g., 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable') and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'USA and England reported highest peak' (missing articles), 'Korea ND France' (incorrect capitalization/abbreviation), and 'not contained much data' (incorrect verb tense/structure). These errors are noticeable and occasionally impede the clarity of the information being presented. To improve, focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles, subject-verb agreement, and verb tenses. Proofreading for these common errors will help to improve the overall quality of the writing.
