Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the graph, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify trends for several countries, the reporting of data points is often inaccurate or lacks precision (e.g., '48//5'). The overview is missing; a successful Task 1 response must include a clear summary of the overall trends rather than just listing country-by-country details. Furthermore, the task asks for comparisons, which are largely absent. To improve, ensure you group countries with similar trends together rather than listing them individually, and provide a clear, concise summary of the most significant changes observed across the nine countries.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is mechanical. You rely on simple transitions like 'In Canada' and 'In Spain', which makes the writing feel like a list rather than a cohesive report. There is a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices to link ideas within and between sentences. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to show relationships between the data, such as 'in contrast to', 'similarly', or 'whereas', and ensure that referencing is clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and occasionally inappropriate for an academic report. Words like 'plump', 'fatty', and 'disastrous' are subjective and informal, which is not suitable for describing statistical data. You should use neutral, precise terminology such as 'overweight', 'obesity rates', or 'proportions'. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'nationalist of country' instead of 'the population'. To improve, focus on learning academic collocations and synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' (e.g., 'climb', 'decline', 'fluctuate') to avoid repetition and maintain a professional tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'tracks about the overweight rate', 'time to time', and '48//5'. There is a limited range of sentence structures, with most sentences following a simple subject-verb-object pattern. You need to work on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and prepositions. Additionally, try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, to demonstrate a wider grammatical range. Proofreading for basic errors like 'riseand' (missing space) is essential before submitting.
