Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have attempted to identify main features, the report is incomplete. You have only covered the USA in the detail paragraph, leaving out the majority of the nine countries mentioned in the prompt. To achieve a higher band, you must provide a more comprehensive overview of the data, ensuring all countries or significant groupings are addressed. The analysis is currently too narrow, and the failure to reach the word count indicates that the task has not been fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and one body paragraph. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the incomplete nature of the report. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall' and 'Moving into the details', but the internal flow within the body paragraph is disjointed. For example, the sentence structure regarding the USA's trends is confusing and repetitive. Paragraphing is present, but the lack of sufficient content makes the overall structure feel underdeveloped. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear focus and use linking words more effectively to connect data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have a basic range of vocabulary suitable for describing trends, such as 'gradual rise', 'sharp fall', and 'upward trend'. However, there are issues with word choice and collocation. For instance, 'demonstrating least ratio of obesity' is awkward, and 'gaining obesity' is not standard English. There are also errors in phrasing, such as 'remained the least in gaining weight'. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your collocations are natural. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would also help demonstrate a more flexible command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For example, 'USA started with the highest proportion... followed by Austria, whereas Italy, Canadians and Koreans remained the least' contains inconsistent subject-noun usage. There are also punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary comma after 'past.' and the run-on structure in the second paragraph. The use of tenses is generally acceptable, but the sentence construction is often clunky. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and reducing run-on sentences will help improve your accuracy and overall control.
