Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response provides a clear overview and identifies the main trends, such as the USA having the highest rates and Korea the lowest. However, the reporting of data is inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, stating the USA started at 45% and finished at 75% is a broad estimation, and the description of other countries lacks precision. The comparison between countries is present but could be more analytical. To improve, ensure that specific data points are cited accurately from the graph and avoid vague descriptions like 'tends to increase and decrease' without specifying the timeframe or the extent of the change.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Overall', 'At a fleeting glance', and 'Moving further', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'At a fleeting glance'. Additionally, the referencing within sentences is sometimes unclear, making the flow of information slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations. Examples include 'calibrated in percentage', 'USA had recorded highest percentage', and 'coated at 64%'. These errors occasionally impede the precision of the report. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary (e.g., 'the data is presented in percentages' instead of 'calibrated') and ensure that verbs and adjectives are used correctly in context. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points but lacks sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'at highest percentage'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'had examined to finished'), and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'Korea had considered a healthiest country'). While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and passive voice, which is essential for describing data in academic tasks.
