Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 142 words long. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence ('Korea was much better rate from 22 % upto'). While you have identified some main features of the graph, the lack of a clear overview and the unfinished nature of the report significantly impact the score. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the overall trends and complete all sentences. The failure to finish the task and the under-length penalty prevent a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response lacks paragraphing, which is essential for a clear structure in an IELTS Task 1 report. The flow of information is somewhat mechanical, relying on repetitive sentence structures such as 'In [year] [x]% population was...'. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link the data points effectively. To improve, group the countries by their trends (e.g., those with sharp increases vs. those with more stable growth) and use linking words like 'In contrast,' 'Similarly,' or 'Meanwhile' to create a more logical progression between the data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and limited. You frequently use the word 'proportion' and 'rising trend' without much variation. While the terminology is generally relevant to the task, there is a lack of sophisticated or precise vocabulary to describe the data (e.g., 'steep increase' is good, but could be paired with more varied verbs like 'surged,' 'fluctuated,' or 'plateaued'). Spelling and punctuation errors, such as 'trand' and missing spaces after periods, also detract from the overall quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the USA population') and prepositions ('from 22 % upto'). Subject-verb agreement is also inconsistent, such as 'USA show a rising trand' instead of 'shows.' The lack of complex sentence structures limits the potential for a higher band. To improve, focus on using a mix of simple and complex sentences, and pay closer attention to basic grammar rules like pluralization and the correct use of articles before country names.
